He had a large hand in helping us expand the RBC Jazz Beyond Stage to three days of quality programming. Here, he dishes on the five acts he's most excited about at Summer Fest.

Donate Your Instrument at Summer Fest

Donate your used clarinets, flutes, trombones and trumpets to Progressions, San Jose Jazz's pioneering youth development program, at Summer Fest! You can drop off your instrument from 11am-5pm 8/10 and 8/11 at the Bank of the West Next Gen Stage.

B-3 guru Dr. Lonnie Smith, now five decades into his career, is a living legend of jazz. Writer Laura G. Thorne walks you through pieces of this self-taught wizard's catalog and legacy, including his musical tributes to Jimi Hendrix and his influence on the 90's acid jazz movement in the UK.
