Can Aja Brown, Compton's Hip, Refreshing Reform Mayor, Turn This Woeful City Around? BY PATRICK RANGE MCDONALD

Can Aja Brown, Comptons Hip... Here comes Aja Brown — pronounced “Asia” for those who haven’t heard about the 31-year-old mayor of Compton elected in a landslide vote last month. The young black men sitting at a shady picnic table in Wilson Park on North Rose Avenue know exactly how to say it. Only God Forgives Is So Ridiculous It's Hard to Take It Seriously | Ryan Gosling reunites with Drive director for more arthouse violence BY STEPHANIE ZACHAREK

Only God Forgives Is So Rid... Incest, eyeball-gouging, interior decorating: If Only God Forgives is any indication, writer-director Nicolas Winding Refn is a man of many interests. He's also put Kristin Scott Thomas in a blond wig and an assortment of cougar-mom outfits, which is either a plus or a minus, depending on how you look at it. The movie, in which Ryan Gosling plays an American drug smuggler living the lowlife in Ba... more >>
